Mr Gumby, we can't take responsibility for what people put on the platform and have no way to verify whether a claim is correct or not. This is a statement true for any social site where people constantly cheats and it happens all the time. We comply to the same standards as everybody else. You have the opportunity to correct it yourself as long as you have a valid email of your company. You can also let us know which associations are wrong and we will act in less than 48 hours.

From one reason, i didn't see this comment until now. We don't have any intention to capture information from people who wants the information removed from the site, we want them to get on their way as soon as possible. We are not interested in having people register either. In your case, you can remove profile directly from the site by providing any type of email address, which will not get used unless somebody comes complaining about this profile removal.
Can you go on hub.spoke.com and create your company there? We are going to merge the two sites over time.
Jason, if you have registered, your company will be automatically added to the database so when it appears, you can take control of the page and edit it to your liking. On 2/15/2010, we are going to make things even more easier as we are releasing an evolution of the site where you will be to create and add information to the site without registering. Of course, those comments will be moderated so that the page stays clean.
This is a dead horse and closer to its death every day. We have a public beta site called hub.spoke.com which answers this question. Feedback we have been getting are extremely positive but we always would like more. Let us know what you think.

To SafetyStore: we have released on hub.spoke.com a beta version of the site. I am sure you will be pleased with the results and how easy it is to update information. Re:current spoke.com, you can indeed update the employee list by registering and claiming the company profile.

Hi Jason, thank you for your comment, I am going to refer you to our FAQ on the site (http://www.spoke.com/resources/faq/) to answer more fully your question. In a nutshell, you can:
1) Claim your profile: http://www.spoke.com/resources/faq/#faq-id2242568
2) Update your profile: http://www.spoke.com/resources/faq/#faq-id2242569
3) Remove yourself from the directory: http://www.spoke.com/resources/faq/#faq-id2242572
4) You can do the same on the company page: do a search on your company name, click on your company name, on the left side, join to edit and then edit the profile. You can do this only if you have an email from the company you are trying to edit the profile from.
To give you also a sense of perspective, we have 4 million unique visitors coming to the site and a few hundred thousand updating their information on a monthly basis so I am glad I don’t have to update all those profiles myself but I am also glad that people are reaching out to me on Uservoice for help if they can’t find their way around the site. We had a long debate internally about whether to remove those comments who are more self service in nature than request for feature update and decided to keep most of them (we remove the ones that only gives us a link to a profile and ask us to remove it) as this is the voice of our users talking and this is why this site is for. My team is constantly reading those comments and, because of that, is focused on the right thing and that is invaluable to us. We are now an A+ rated company at BBB and the number of complaints at Truste or on self service is now minimal. We are closing the loop as we are about to release a new site in May 2011 that is making updating information on the site so easy that I am hoping we will have resolve the issue and that it will become clearer to anybody why a site like Spoke is necessary. I know we have still some work to do ahead of us to get there but we are on our way.
I have still not heard back from Mem and Man111 both via emails and as a comment. One thing is for certain is that it would be foolish to try to register people if they don't want to be part of a community. This is the reason why we have offered tools for people to remove their profiles without registering and why you can reach our support requirement via mail. The next site redesign is going to make things even clearer it was not the case as people will be able to update profiles without registering. We will be of course moderating everything but the notion that we are forcing people to register is not our aim at all.
MeM and Man111, not sure what you are talking about and how we can help you. Our current ranking on BBB is A+ right now and we are very proud of it so I need you to stop making false accusations. Kady, it does work. If you click on the link on Google and on Spoke.com website, it should show that the profile is not available. It takes Google between 1 day to 3 weeks to deindex the page.
Kady, a regular email is enough for you to remove yourself on the site.
What you are seeing is a bit of an issue that we have been struggling with. If we aggregate 10% sources of information that are 99.0% correct (1 piece of info is correct out 100) then 10% of the profile are incorrect by nature and you may find that the info is bogus. We are not offering an ability to edit keywords but this will come in the near future (before the end of the year.
On the left side of the screen when you look at your company profile, there is a button called join to edit. Click on it and register, as long as you have an email associated with the company, you will be able to make the changes you want including people that have been wrongly associated with the company.
We do and we offer the ability to remove yourself from the site by clicking on "this is me" and follow the links that is on the right side. However, I am going to contact you directly and put you in touch with our user department.

Kevin, I understand and given how important Mac is becoming, we should be thinking about it. At this point, all our ressources are tied up to release a new version of the site, which will be released in May so after that, we will reevaluate where porting tools on Mac fits.
You can control your profile now. Go on the profile you want to update and click on this is me. The process will help you register and take control of this profile. We are making this even more simpler as soon you will be update a profile without even registering.
You can already edit a profile by claiming it or remove the profile if you want to. We are also working on a way for people to directly edit their profile without registering.
